The Recollections of a First Lady, Julia Grant

Near the end of her life, Julia Grant reflected on her early life in Missouri. In her memoirs, Julia writes of her early life, courtship and marriage to Ulysses Grant, the Civil War years, and living in the White House. She reflects on Ulysses Grant’s final struggle with cancer as well as her relationship with Varina Davis, wife of Jefferson Davis, and Susan B. Anthony. Moving and inspirational.
